The Founder

Terra Mare Consulting was founded by Akshata Mehta,  a marine and coastal researcher based in Cape Town, South Africa. With a foundation in social-ecological systems, her work centers on the human dimensions of marine environments, the bioeconomy, and climate resilience.

 

Like many in academia, Akshata wears multiple hats in her career—from researcher to consultant to science communicator. Beyond engaging in the research process itself, her experience includes managing research initiatives, and developing and reviewing publications. She focuses on making scientific knowledge accessible to wider audiences. She has also dabbled in arts-based research, using film as a method of science communication, and introducing innovative approaches to environmental storytelling.

 

As the Director of Terra Mare Consulting, she is dedicated to providing actionable insights and solutions that bridge science, policy, and community engagement for equitable marine and coastal futures.
